PE
We believe that physical fitness and physical health contribute towards good mental health and holistic wellbeing.
We want our children to be active every day in PE activities and in their play.
We want children to understand and appreciate the importance of physical health on their own mental health and wellbeing.
We want children to feel confident to engage with structured sport, dance, exercise and active play.
We want children to experience success individually and as part of teams.
We want children to understand how they can improve their level of performance, skill, strength, balance, enjoyment in sport through practise and effort.
We want children to gain an understanding of resilience and stamina and how this can be developed and how these qualities transfer in to other areas of learning and life.
Implementation
All our children do PE every day for 30 minutes.
Children attend school in their PE kits every day to maximise the time available for activity and to ensure that no PE time is wasted getting changed.
‘Real PE gives EVERY child the physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills to achieve in PE, Sport and life.‘
It is fully aligned to the National Curriculum and Ofsted requirements and focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning through a unique and market leading approach to teaching and learning in PE.

All teachers have received extensive training in delivering the curriculum.
Real PE is delivered on three days and on the remaining two days classes have a Traditional Sport day and Fitness Friday. This gives an opportunity to apply learnt PE skills within a real games context such as Netball, Football, Hockey, Athletics.
Traditional sports are delivered using the PE Planning resource to ensure structure, sequence and progression between and within year groups.
Fitness Friday is an opportunity to make links between fitness and wellbeing incorporating skills learnt throughout the week as well as cardiovascular activity. Some classes work towards personal best achievement across the range of activities. This also links really well to our '5 Ways to Wellbeing' approach.
Progress in PE is assessed using a Real PE wheel which is an assessment resource covering all six areas of the curriculum.
Impact
School’s own evaluation of impact by subject leader, governor and Headteacher demonstrates that children and staff are positive about PE. Learning in PE is being delivered at a consistently good level across all year groups.
Children and staff value the daily lesson and the opportunity to be active. Pupil voice is very positive about the lessons and children very much enjoy Fitness Fridays.
Informal observations of playtimes indicate that all children are more active, more likely to be involved in a game or sport at playtime and use equipment more often in play such as balls and skipping ropes. Girls are more active than before.
Pupil voice indicates that children increasingly understand the link between physical health and wellbeing.
Following lockdown in 2020 we recognised that many of our children had undertaken very little physical exercise whilst away from school. When school recommenced we decided to introduce a daily PE activity based on our Real PE curriculum. This move compliments our drive to improve children’s understanding of their own physical and mental wellbeing. Children now come to school in their PE kit to maximise activity time. The change has proved very popular with children and their parents.
One of our children commented during a pupil voice assessment;
‘The daily PE makes it easier for me to concentrate for the rest of the day.’
